We are all human, right? Everyone gets stressed out whether it's a job interview or your first day of college. But what about when being stressed consumes your whole life? Here are 10 ways to take control back and start being calm!
1. EFT Tapping
“EFT Tapping” stands for Emotional Freedom Tapping. When I was younger I had this amazing teacher who taught me about EFT Tapping and at first I was skeptical of it, I mean who wouldn't be? But I decided to try it. Low and behold it actually worked! There are many books and research behind showing how it reduces anxiety. In a stressful situation just look at the diagram below and tap those points of your body with lots of pressure!
2. Communicate
COMMUNICATING IS KEY! Try to communicate through what you are anxious about.
Let me give you an example, imagine you are having an argument with a professor about a project, you are going through something in your personal life and can’t quite finish your project. You email the professor and the professor says I can’t accept late work. At least the worry of mystery about whether the professor could accept the project late would go away which is what causes most people to be anxious in the first place. Without realizing it, the problem a lot of the time the mystery, the what if. Communicating takes away the what if or mystery!
3. Listen to music
Did you ever realize how when you're at a spa and listening to calming music that you become more relaxed?
Researchers at Stanford University actually stated that listening to music can have the same effect as MEDICATION. I know crazy. But the reasoning behind that is, certain music can cause our alpha brainwave to be calm and relaxed while still being aware.
So go and make a playlist for whenever you’re stressed or anxious!!
4. Think about the situation from another perspective
Think about the situation you're in and how realistically important it is.
Will this matter in a week or a month?
Has a situation like this ever resulted in a terrible result?
5. Meditate
Why does meditation help?
According to a Harvard health blog, an assistant professor of psychiatry from Harvard stated that “mindfulness meditation makes perfect sense for treating people with anxiety, people with anxiety have a problem dealing with distracting thoughts that have too much power.”
Next time you're in a stressful situation, meditate, my personal favorite free app is tide but there are many other platforms you can meditate on for FREE. It only takes 5 minutes or even less out of your day.
