A lot of people think they know the difference between extroverts and introverts. Extroverts are more outgoing and love people, while introverts are shy and hate people but there is actually a lot more to it than you would expect!
I’m a naturally curious person, knowing what I am and what I’m not is intriguing for me and most people for that matter. Since most people like to know about themselves and the people around them I decided to do a blog dedicated to the difference and clear up a lot of misconceptions. But before I explain: keep in mind no one and I mean NO ONE will resonate with all the traits of an introvert or all the traits of an extrovert. At the end of the day it’s a spectrum and we are all human, which means we are mixture of everything even though some traits of ourselves might be more prominent than others. With all that being said I’ll explain the difference between introverts and extroverts now :).
Introverts
The biggest misconception about being an introvert is that Introverts and being shy are the same. I hate to break it to you but they’re definitely not the same and not always shy. An introvert can be super outgoing. The main difference between the two is that an introvert recharges with solitude and an extrovert recharges being around people. Just because introverts recharge with solitude doesn’t necessarily mean that they hate people or can't be people lovers.
Here are some traits introverts usually have!
-More introspective
-Deeper thinkers
-Prefer to be around 1 or 2 people.
-More prone to anxiety and depression
-Better spoken through writing.
-Easily distracted
-Talk slower and quieter
-More interested in their own thoughts or feelings.
Extroverts
Similar to introvert stereotypes, extroverts are typically supposed to be super outgoing people who are very energetic. That is completely false you can be a shy extrovert but if you get energized by people then you're an extrovert!
Here are some traits extroverts have!
-Good speakers
-More Impulsive decisions
-Needs more stimulation (Ex. Roller coaster)
-Easily bored.
-Prefer to be in the center of attention.
-Talk faster and louder.
-More likely to interrupt people in the middle of there sentences.
-Jump from one topic to another quicker .
-More interested in external environment.
I hope you liked the article and found something useful! Maybe you didn’t resonate with either and that’s completely okay, psychology is not as simple as Introvert and extrovert. At the end of the day they are very broad definitions that some people can fit in. My next few articles will be about omniverts vs ambiverts and the 4 different types of introverts. So stay tuned and subscribe if you want to learn more about psychology!
