One Of The Most Interesting Psychology Phenomenons: Cotard's Syndrome (Walking Corpse Syndrome)

In all of the world only 200 times has this syndrome ever been diagnosed. So what is Cotard's syndrome?

- Cotard's syndrome is when someone believes that they don't exist, that they are dead, or certain parts of themselves don't exist.

Crazy, right? Imagine waking up one morning and not even realizing you are alive!

Now, what is a real life example of this case?

This rare neuropsychiatric condition (which is most commonly seen in patients with depression or anxiety) occurred in Warren Mckinlay after suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2005. While he was in the hospital he was convinced he was dead, others were surrounding him though and he understood that real people were there, but he didn't understand he still existed. Other odd things started occurring like he wouldn't eat because he thought he was dead and he also started to think people were there but not physically. He did survive and realize he was alive multiple years later though in recovery.

History Of Cotard's Syndrome

In 1880 founded by Jules Cotard, this syndrome was discovered by Cotard's delusion after experiencing a fatal motorbike accident.
